I had to wipe everything.
They were coming. I could see them outside my window, exiting a car and heading for the front door. There were four of them, enough to easily overpower me if it came down to a physical confrontation. They would be ringing the doorbell in just a few moments. In short, I was in panic mode.
There was no way they could see the contents of my Corsair Force 90GB Solid-State Drive. If they did, it would all be over. Without even a minute to spare, I rushed to my computer and hit the power button. It turned out to be a stupid decision as the computer needed time to boot up; time I did not have.
Instead, I opened the case and ripped out the solid-state drive. I held it above my head, thought for a split second about the years of amassed treasures I would be destroying and smashed it severely on the ground. Just then, the doorbell rang.
“Mr. S, how are you?” a large man asked. I did not respond.
“We understand you have a large number of special pictures on your computer,” he said. Again, I did not respond.
“The kind of special pictures that might get me a few dollars off a 2-piece meal at Popeye’s, I’ve heard.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I replied, closing the door.
