Julie Evans was 24 years old. An attractive, intelligent and stubborn girl, she left home after high school to hitchhike her way to California and begin a new life. While everything was going as well as one could expect, she had been harboring a gut feeling that she was being followed the past few days. She took the right turn onto her street one night as per usual and walked for a moment in the street, detoured by the overgrown bushes spilling out over the sidewalk from one neighbor's lawn. Julie stopped in the middle of the street when she saw...something. It was a figure in the circle of light produced by the overhead streetlamp; the distance and shadow made it difficult to make out any details.
Maybe it wasn't the best idea, but curiosity got the better of Julie and she approached the figure. Slowly, she creeped up, not even sure which direction the figure was looking; it didn't move an inch. Before long, she crossed the threshold of light and got a good look at the thing. Ready to scream, Julie turned to run and saw that more had arrived and were behind her.
