Then I heard the most amazing sound.
Have you ever heard of this thing called music? It’s pretty cool, I must say. I first heard about it from my coworker, Ned, and ever since then I’ve been listening to it almost non-stop. You see, you can’t actually see music (although I’ve heard you can graph it or something with the right programs), but you can hear it. Also, somehow it’s math … I still don’t really understand that part, but I guess I can chock it up to the fact that I only discovered it a few days ago.
One experience I just had blew all the others out of the water. I was strolling down the sidewalk, listening to Gustav Mahler’s Ninth Symphony on my phone through Wicked Little Buds. Man, those headphone are so good, it’s absolutely ridiculous. So ridiculous that sometimes I start laughing for no reason and people look at me strange. I try to tell them, “No, I’m not laughing for no reason, it’s because these headphones are so good it’s ridiculous,” but that doesn’t garner the most positive reception.
Anyway, so I’m listening to Mahler’s Ninth when, all of the sudden, the music is interrupted by a sound so heavenly I couldn’t comprehend it fully. It sounded like a marimba playing this jangly line over and over again. The timbre (that’s a musical term) of the instrument was majestic and the repeated intervals warmed my heart. It was so great I completely forget that I was listening to Mahler, who now sounded like a total slob of a composer in comparison.
