I had inadvertently stumbled across something I wasn't supposed to see.
People like to talk about being in the right place at the right time. It can be a rare occurrence, but we usually praise the good fortune of those that find themselves in that position. What people don't really like to talk about as often is being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I had this unfortunate experience a few days ago.
I decided on my walk home from work that I would mix things up and try a route I wasn't accustomed to. I generally like to do that every now and then because it puts a nice refreshed feeling on my mood. The boring monotony of seeing the same buildings, the same people, the same streets and crossing in the same spots every day can so easily be interrupted by just changing direction. Take a left here instead of going straight and taking a left. Walk on the other side of the road. Look up rather than at your feet. You would be surprised how good you can feel about yourself when you aren't doing the same thing over and over and over and over.
But, as I mentioned earlier, this can sometimes lead to trouble if you aren't smart about it. I decided to change my route home a little bit, going through this one house instead of around it. The front door was locked, but I managed to get through one of the windows by removing the air conditioner. I walked around inside and it was a pretty nice house with a great setup. I walked into their kitchen and saw that they had the Netgear Router on the counter. Wow, what a cool way to have wireless internet.
When I finally took my gaze off the Netgear, I looked up to see some pretty horrifying things. They had a nice array of knives, but they were all covered in dripping blood. Then I noticed their multiple sinks were filled with little aliens. I knew right away I needed to get out of there. Just then, I heard voices and footsteps headed in my direction. Not long after I was face to face with the killer. We locked eyes and I made the smartest decision of my life: I bolted in the opposite direction, not stopping to look back.
I was so scared that I couldn't concentrate on anything going on other than making my body run. I was too distracted to hear the guy I met say, “Yo, kid, we're trying to film a movie here!”
