Well, there goes yet another $499.
Everything turned to slow motion as the man behind me in line bumped into me and my iPad fell off of my head, where I was balancing it, and flew towards the floor like a plane in a nosedive. I lunged forward, completely parallel with the floor, arms outstretched in a courageous attempt at catching my most prized possession. It was all in vain, however, and my noble dive did nothing more than allow me to see the destruction of my new device mere inches from my face. Shards of broken electronic parts flew into my eyes and caused much irritation over the next few days.

I thought I would catch it, I really did. I was so close, but my aim was off and the iPad fell in between my arms. It was such a defeating feeling. I couldn't even bear to be in line anymore, and I love waiting in line. I never figured out what was at the end of that line and I didn't care one bit. My iPad was gone. The moment I realized I wasn't going to catch it, I had a flashback to the moment I bought it at the Apple Store. Confetti fell from the ceiling and what must have been 50 people performed a choreographed dance on the tables. As I walked out of the building, everybody told me how much they wished they were me and one employee asked me if I wanted to buy an extended warranty.

“Nope! What's the worst that could happen?” I shouted back on my way out the door.

Who knew that only 20 minutes later I would be looking at the broken shards of a dead iPad?

I saw down on the edge of the sidewalk and drank a brass monkey. I thought it would help clear my mind but it really just sent me into a pathetic wave of tears, remembering all the good times we had together. Someone must have been paying attention because they dropped a HandStand iPad Case right next to me and said, “Shut the heck up, crybaby.”

I was extremely grateful for the gift that I shot up and hugged the man. He pushed me off right away, made a degrading comment, and walked off. What a kind soul, I thought. Now, I would never break an iPad again! Just gotta go buy another one first...
